Colonial Mexico Pilgrimage

We warmly invite you to join us on a deeply spiritual pilgrimage through Mexico as we follow the footsteps of the Cristero martyrs and saints. Beginning in Guadalajara, the cultural heart of western Mexico, we will encounter the living Catholic heritage of the region while visiting sacred sites connected to St. Toribio Romo and the heroic young martyr St. José Sánchez del Río. Along the journey we will pray at San Juan de los Lagos, ascend the mountain shrine of Cristo Rey, and explore the historic beauty of Guanajuato.

Our pilgrimage continues to Mexico City, where we will celebrate Mass with Archbishop Jose Gomez at the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, praying before the miraculous tilma of St. Juan Diego. Together we will deepen our faith, grow in fellowship, and entrust our intentions to Our Lady on this unforgettable spiritual journey through the history and devotion that helped shape the Church in the Americas.

  • Our pilgrimage begins as we depart Los Angeles and arrive in the vibrant city of Guadalajara, the cultural heart of western Mexico. Upon arrival, we are warmly welcomed by our local guide and driver and transferred to our hotel to settle in after our journey. This evening we gather for our first group dinner, meet our fellow pilgrims, and prepare our hearts for the spiritual days ahead. Overnight in Guadalajara.

  • After breakfast, we travel to Sahuayo, the hometown of the young martyr St. José Sánchez del Río, a heroic witness of faith during the Cristero persecution. Here we visit the sites connected to his life and courage and celebrate Holy Mass, entrusting our own intentions and families to his intercession. We then return to Guadalajara for an afternoon city tour through the historic center, where we will see the cathedral and colonial plazas and enjoy free time for prayer and reflection. Dinner at a local restaurant and overnight in Guadalajara.

  • This morning we depart for Santa Ana de Guadalupe, the shrine of St. Toribio Romo, patron saint of migrants. We pray at the very place where he lived and ministered and reflect on his pastoral love and sacrifice. We continue to San Juan de los Lagos, one of Mexico’s most beloved Marian shrines, to visit the Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan and celebrate Mass. After time for prayer and devotion, we journey to the beautiful colonial city of Guanajuato, where we check in, enjoy dinner, and rest for the night.

  • After breakfast we travel to the mountain shrine of Cristo Rey at Cerro del Cubilete, one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Mexico and a symbol of the Cristero faith. Here we celebrate Mass and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views while reflecting on Christ’s kingship over our lives. Returning to Guanajuato, we take a walking tour through its colorful streets and visit the famous El Pípila viewpoint overlooking the city. Dinner at a local restaurant and overnight in Guanajuato.

  • After breakfast and check-out, we depart Guanajuato and journey toward Mexico City. Along the way we stop in Tulpetlac, home to one of the earliest churches associated with the apparitions of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Here we celebrate Holy Mass and reflect on the beginning of the Guadalupe devotion that transformed the faith of an entire continent. We then continue to Mexico City, check into our hotel, and gather for dinner. Overnight in Mexico City.

  • Today we celebrate Holy Mass at the magnificent Metropolitan Cathedral of Mexico City (special Mass with the Archbishop as scheduled). Afterwards we explore the historic center, including the Zócalo and important religious and cultural landmarks. The afternoon provides time for reflection and fellowship as we deepen our understanding of Mexico’s Catholic heritage. Dinner and overnight in Mexico City.

  • Today is the spiritual highlight of our pilgrimage. After breakfast we visit the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, where we pray before the miraculous tilma of St. Juan Diego and have time for personal devotion and thanksgiving. We join and celebrate a special Holy Mass with the Archbishop at the Basilica. Following Mass, we visit Tlatelolco, the site connected to St. Juan Diego and the early evangelization of Mexico. Our day concludes with a farewell dinner at a local restaurant before returning to the hotel for our final overnight in Mexico City.

  • On the final morning of our pilgrimage, we will celebrate Mass at the Holy Family Church of Blessed Miguel Pro. After Mass, we will de dropped off, at agreed time, at the airport to catch our flights back home to Los Angeles, CA.
